CARBON MONOXIDE IN THE NEWS
CO TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION NOW AVAILABLE
Technical Training Associates has announced a new carbon monoxide certification program for technicians. The program, in cooperation with HVAC Excellence and ESCO requires technicians to achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on a 100 multiple-choice question exam.
“Consumers are learning more and more about the health effects of low level carbon monoxide poisoning,” said Jim Johnson, who is directing the certification program at TTA, “and they’ll be looking to certified technicians to accomplish complete evaluations of their gas-burning appliances and determine whether or not there are excessive CO levels in their workplaces and homes.” According to Johnson, CO certified technicians who achieve a passing score on the exam demonstrate not only a knowledge of the proper use of test equipment, but also an understanding of how CO is produced, how low levels of it present in the air affects at-risk groups such as infants, the elderly, pregnant women and individuals with anemic conditions. “It’s not just testing for cracked heat exchangers any more,” he said. “Research has shown that illnesses that are written off as things such as the flu, may, in fact, be CO poisoning.”
